Ege Akyüz Wins Turkey National Brewers Cup with La Mula Washed!
Ege Akyüz proudly presents the trophy she received after winning the National Brewers Cup of Turkey on October 25, 2015 at the Istanbul Coffee Festival. Ege works for Punctum Coffee Roasters, a small micro-roastery in Izmir, owned by her father Cemil Akyüz who also roasted the La Mula coffee for the competition.
“I decided to participate to the National Brewers Cup at the beginning of this year. While we were looking for a coffee to use in the competition we come up to Boot Coffee’s story. We were impressed by their effort and work to achieve specialty coffee and we decided to use this coffee in the competition.”
Prior to the competition, Ege and her colleagues performed various experiments trying to roast the La Mula washed to its optimum point of flavor development. The maceration washed process of La Mula complicates the roasting due to the various layers of fruit in the profile. For the competition, Ege and her dad used a Toper Cafemino 1kg roasting machine.
“Our work brought us a huge success and our goal is to repeat it on the 2016 World Brewers Cup in Ireland.”
