Upon arrival in Aleta Wondo, Ethiopia, we were welcomed by the beautiful smile of this lady presenting us with an aromatic cup of Aleta Wondo coffee. I’m here with Matt Weiner from Peak to Peak Coffee, to meet with cooperative coffee farmers from the Aleta Wondo region to discuss the challenges and opportunities of cooperatives and farmers during the current market conditions. With the bumper crop of last year and the falling market prices, coffee suppliers are still sitting on massive inventories of coffee unsold. We spent the night in a roundhouse at the beautiful site of the Common River community development project, which established a primary school for 135 orphans from the local town.
